Plot
Ronnie Jackson(Bob Hope)is a frustrated baby photographer who yearns to be a private detective like his friend Sam McCloud (Alan Ladd) who has an office next door to his. One day he goes across to talk to Sam and show him the gun he just bought, when Sam asks him to watch the office for him while he goes out of town for a couple of days. Minutes after Sam Leaves, a beautiful and mysterious woman, the Baroness Carlotta Montay (Dorothy Lamour), comes into Sam's office and, mistaking Ronnie for Sam, insists that he help find her husband. Even though it's pretty clear that he's bumbler who should know better, Ronnie is mesmerized by the baroness, and so he lets her think he's the detective and takes the case.
