Plot
The Lost Weekend is the story of a man named Don (Ray Milland), who lives his crummy life day to day and bottle to bottle. While Don dreams of becoming an acclaimed writer, something that he indeed has a talent for, his alcoholic ways always quash any serious attempt at the craft. It gets so bad that even fails to go with his longtime lover Helen St. James (Jane Wyman) on a weekend getaway to the country. Instead he spends it drinking as much as he can, and when Helen returns she finds him drunken and penniless once again. She then understands that she is the only hope for his recovery.
